The Williams pear has become the standard pear variety grown pretty much worldwide. It is a high quality pear with smooth flesh and lovely aroma. Soft skinned and easily bruised, it ripens early to mid season, very good for bottling – keeps its shape and flavour when cooked, seems to do well in many different climates, stands the cold better than most others. The Williams pear is self fertile – will set a crop when planted on its own.
